The Apollo Program

NASA's Apollo Lunar Program was established with the joint objectives of developing space technology, and increasing scientific understanding of the Moon. Twenty-two manned and eleven unmanned missions were launched between 1961 and 1972, with six successful manned missions to the lunar surface. Following the successful landing and return of Apollo 11, the subsequent missions focused on in-depth scientific exploration of the lunar surface.
