Phoenix science documentation uses the "Committee on Data Management and Computation" (CODMAC) data level numbering system. Details for each instrument are described below.
ASE ASE EDRs are considered NASA Level 1 (CODMAC Level 2) data products. RDR products at higher NASA levels may have the same general format and structure.
Camera Camera EDR data products are considered CODMAC "Level 2" or "Edited Data" (equivalent to NASA level 0) products. The EDR data files are generated from "Level 1" or "Raw Data", which are the telemetry packets within the project specific Standard Formatted Data Unit (SFDU) record. PHX camera instrument RDRs are considered “Level 3” (“Calibrated Data” equivalent to NASA Level 1-A), “Level 4” (“Resampled Data” equivalent to NASA Level 1-B), or “Level 5” (“Derived Data” equivalent to NASA Level 1-C, 2 or 3). The RDRs are to be reconstructed from “Level 2” edited data, and are to be assembled into complete images that may include radiometric and/or geometric correction.
MECA - Non-Imaging MECA non-imaging EDRs are equivalent to NASA Level 0 (CODMAC Level 2) data products. MECA non-imaging RDRs are equivalent to NASA Level 1A and 1B (CODMAC Level 3 and 4) data products. Higher level special products may be available at mission end for each of the MECA sub-systems.
MET MET EDRs are considered CODMAC Level 2 data products. MET RDRs are equivalent to CODMAC Level 3 data products, because they are equation processed derivations of Level 2 EDR data.
SSI Atmospheric opacity EDRs are considered CODMAC "Level 5" or "Derived Data" (equivalent to NASA Level 2). The Mars atmospheric opacity data products are generated from analysis of Phoenix SSI images.
TEGA All TEGA EDR products are considered raw data, the NASA Level 0 (CODMAC Level 2) data processing level. TEGA RDR products are considered reduced data products as defined by both NASA and CODMAC. TEGA ENGRDR products are processed to NASA Level 1A (CODMAC 3) as they have been calibrated. SCRDR, EGSRDR and EGHRDR products are processed to NASA Level 1B (CODMAC 4) as they have been re-sampled from the raw data.
The table below shows a breakdown of the CODMAC and NASA data processing levels.
